पांवटा साहिब विधानसभा क्षेत्र के बहराल और सातीवाला गांव में जंगली हाथियों के बढ़ते आतंक से ग्रामीणों और किसानों में दहशत का माहौल है। हाथियों ने एक घर की बाउंडरी दीवार तोड़कर अंदर घुसकर काफी नुकसान पहुंचाया। गनीमत रही कि घटना के समय घर में कोई मौजूद नहीं था, जिससे एक बड़ा हादसा टल गया। हाथियों ने किसान महिमा सिंह के ट्यूबवेल को भी तोड़ दिया, जिससे उन्हें भारी नुकसान उठाना पड़ा। वहीं सातीवाला के किसान नीटू राम के खेत में धान की फसल के साथ चेरी और केले के पेड़ों को भी हाथियों ने नुकसान पहुंचाया। ग्रामीणों के अनुसार कुछ दिन पहले सातीवाला के किसान सोनू राम और ठग्गा राम की गायों को भी हाथियों ने मार डाला था। लगातार हो रही इन घटनाओं से किसानों में रोष बढ़ता जा रहा है। भारतीय किसान यूनियन के ब्लॉक अध्यक्ष जसविंदर सिंह बिलिंग ने वन विभाग से हाथियों को गांवों में आने से रोकने के लिए तत्काल प्रभावी कदम उठाने की मांग की है। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रभावित किसानों को हुए नुकसान का उचित मुआवजा दिया जाए। बिलिंग ने चेतावनी दी कि यदि वन विभाग ने जल्द कार्रवाई नहीं की और किसानों को मुआवजा नहीं मिला तो किसान वन विभाग कार्यालय के बाहर धरना-प्रदर्शन करने को मजबूर होंगे और अपना हक लेकर रहेंगे। ग्रामीणों ने भी वन विभाग से हाथियों की आवाजाही रोकने के लिए ठोस व्यवस्था करने तथा प्रभावित किसानों को जल्द राहत देने की मांग की है।

Villagers and farmers in the Bahral and Satiwala villages of the Paonta Sahib assembly constituency are gripped by fear due to the escalating menace of wild elephants. The elephants breached the boundary wall of a house, entered the premises, and caused significant damage. Fortunately, no one was present in the house at the time, averting a major tragedy. The elephants also destroyed a tubewell belonging to farmer Mahima Singh, causing him heavy financial loss. Meanwhile, in Satiwala, elephants damaged the paddy crop as well as cherry and banana trees in farmer Neetu Ram's field. According to villagers, elephants had also killed cows belonging to Satiwala farmers Sonu Ram and Thagga Ram a few days earlier. Anger is mounting among the farmers due to these recurring incidents. Jaswinder Singh Billing, Block President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, has demanded that the Forest Department take immediate, effective measures to prevent elephants from entering the villages. He urged that affected farmers be provided with adequate compensation for their losses. Billing warned that if the Forest Department fails to take prompt action and the farmers do not receive compensation, they will be compelled to stage a protest outside the Forest Department office and fight to secure their rights. The villagers have also demanded that the Forest Department implement concrete measures to curb elephant movement and provide immediate relief to the affected farmers.
