शिक्षा मंत्री रोहित ठाकुर ने राजकीय वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक पाठशाला फागू में आयोजित जिला स्तरीय अंडर-19 छात्र खेलकूद प्रतियोगिता में बतौर मुख्य अतिथि शिरकत की। उन्होंने प्रतियोगिता में भाग ले रहे खिलाड़ियों को शुभकामनाएं देते हुए कहा कि विद्यार्थी जीवन में खेल और शिक्षा एक-दूसरे के पूरक हैं। खेल बच्चों के शारीरिक एवं मानसिक विकास के साथ उनके व्यक्तित्व निर्माण में भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं। प्रतियोगिता में जिले के 8 जोन से करीब 300 विद्यार्थी खिलाड़ी भाग ले रहे हैं। शिक्षा मंत्री ने कहा कि प्रदेश में वर्तमान में 11 स्पोर्ट्स हॉस्टल और एक स्कूल ऑफ स्पोर्ट्स संचालित किए जा रहे हैं, जहां 368 खिलाड़ी प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त कर रहे हैं। शिलाई में भी स्पोर्ट्स हॉस्टल संचालित है। उन्होंने बताया कि पहली बार 650 शारीरिक शिक्षा शिक्षकों को SAI NSNIS पटियाला में आधुनिक एवं वैज्ञानिक खेल प्रशिक्षण के लिए भेजा गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रदेश सरकार खेल प्रतिभाओं को निखारने के साथ खिलाड़ियों को बेहतर सुविधाएं और प्रोत्साहन देने के लिए लगातार प्रयास कर रही है। रोहित ठाकुर ने कहा कि सरकार ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय खेल प्रतियोगिताओं के पदक विजेताओं की पुरस्कार राशि में उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि की है।
ओलंपिक, शीतकालीन ओलंपिक और पैरालंपिक के स्वर्ण पदक विजेताओं को अब 5 करोड़ रुपये, रजत पदक विजेताओं को 3 करोड़ तथा कांस्य पदक विजेताओं को 2 करोड़ रुपये दिए जा रहे हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि प्रदेश के 48 बच्चों ने राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पुरस्कार हासिल किए हैं, जिनमें 8 स्वर्ण, 11 रजत और 29 कांस्य पदक शामिल हैं। इस वर्ष तीन राष्ट्रीय खेल प्रतियोगिताएं भी आयोजित की जाएंगी, जो पिछले 10 वर्षों से आयोजित नहीं हुई थीं। शिक्षा मंत्री ने कहा कि सरकार ने शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में भी कई महत्वपूर्ण निर्णय लिए हैं। विभिन्न श्रेणियों में 9 हजार शिक्षकों के पद भरे जा चुके हैं, जबकि 6 हजार पदों को भरने की प्रक्रिया जारी है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार के कार्यकाल में 15 हजार से अधिक शिक्षकों के पद भरे जाएंगे। विभिन्न छात्रवृत्ति योजनाओं से 87 हजार से अधिक विद्यार्थियों को लाभ मिला है तथा दो वर्षों में छात्र हितैषी योजनाओं के तहत 92 करोड़ रुपये वितरित किए गए हैं। उन्होंने फागू स्कूल भवन के लिए 25 लाख रुपये स्वीकृत करने तथा सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम प्रस्तुत करने वाले विद्यार्थियों को 15 हजार रुपये देने की घोषणा भी की। कार्यक्रम के दौरान शिक्षा मंत्री ने पूर्ण हो चुकी खेल प्रतियोगिताओं के विजेताओं को ट्रॉफियां प्रदान कर सम्मानित किया और क्षेत्रवासियों की समस्याएं सुनीं। उन्होंने बताया कि नेरीपुल से सनौरा तक 36 किलोमीटर सड़क को डबल लेन, चौड़ा एवं पक्का करने के लिए 203 करोड़ रुपये स्वीकृत किए गए हैं और जल्द निर्माण कार्य शुरू होगा। इस अवसर पर पूर्व विधानसभा अध्यक्ष गंगूराम मुसाफिर, कांग्रेस नेत्री दयाल प्यारी, पद्मश्री विद्या नंद सरैक, प्रधानाचार्य कमल किशोर सहित अन्य गणमान्य लोग उपस्थित रहे।

Education Minister Rohit Thakur attended the district-level Under-19 student sports competition held at Government Senior Secondary School, Phagu, as the chief guest. While extending his best wishes to the participating players, he remarked that sports and education complement each other in a student's life. Sports play a vital role not only in the physical and mental development of children but also in shaping their personalities. Approximately 300 student-athletes from eight zones of the district are participating in the competition. The Education Minister stated that 11 sports hostels and one 'School of Sports' are currently operational in the state, where 368 athletes are undergoing training; a sports hostel is also functional in Shillai. He mentioned that, for the first time, 650 physical education teachers have been sent to SAI NSNIS Patiala for modern and scientific sports training. He added that the state government is making continuous efforts to nurture sports talent and provide better facilities and incentives to athletes. Rohit Thakur noted that the government has significantly increased the prize money for medal winners in international sports competitions.
Gold medalists in the Olympics, Winter Olympics, and Paralympics are now awarded ₹5 crore, while silver and bronze medalists receive ₹3 crore and ₹2 crore, respectively. He highlighted that 48 students from the state have won awards at the national level, securing 8 gold, 11 silver, and 29 bronze medals. Three national-level sports competitions, which had not been held for the past decade, will also be organized this year. The Education Minister stated that the government has taken several significant decisions in the education sector as well. Posts for 9,000 teachers across various categories have already been filled, while the process to fill another 6,000 posts is underway. He added that over 15,000 teaching posts would be filled during the government's tenure. More than 87,000 students have benefited from various scholarship schemes, and ₹92 crore has been disbursed under student-friendly initiatives over the past two years. He also announced the sanction of ₹25 lakh for the Fagu school building and a reward of ₹15,000 for the students who performed cultural programs. During the event, the Education Minister honored the winners of completed sports competitions by presenting them with trophies and listened to the grievances of local residents. He stated that ₹203 crore has been sanctioned to widen, pave, and upgrade the 36-kilometer road from Neripul to Sanaura to a double-lane standard, and that construction work would commence soon. Former Assembly Speaker Ganguram Musafir, Congress leader Dayal Pyari, Padma Shri Vidya Nand Saraik, Principal Kamal Kishore, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
