प्रदर्शन के दौरान कांग्रेस कार्यकर्ताओं ने विधायक का पुतला जलाने की कोशिश की, लेकिन पुलिस ने हस्तक्षेप कर उन्हें रोक दिया। इसी दौरान पुतला छीनने को लेकर पुलिस और प्रदर्शनकारियों के बीच धक्का-मुक्की हुई। सुरक्षा बलों ने हालात पर काबू पाते हुए किसी भी अप्रिय घटना को टाल दिया। मौके पर बड़ी संख्या में पुलिस बल तैनात रहा। कांग्रेस नेताओं ने भाजपा विधायक से सार्वजनिक माफी की मांग करते हुए कहा कि प्रदेश के लोकतांत्रिक रूप से चुने गए मुख्यमंत्री का अपमान किसी भी स्थिति में स्वीकार नहीं किया जाएगा। उन्होंने चेतावनी दी कि यदि विवादित टिप्पणी पर खेद व्यक्त नहीं किया गया तो प्रदेशभर में विरोध प्रदर्शन और तेज किए जाएंगे। दूसरी ओर, इस घटनाक्रम ने हिमाचल की राजनीति में बयानबाजी और आरोप-प्रत्यारोप का नया दौर शुरू कर दिया है।

Politics in Himachal Pradesh heated up on Wednesday as Congress workers took to the streets over alleged objectionable remarks made by BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Workers rallying in support of the Chief Minister shouted slogans against the MLA and attempted to burn his effigy. A scuffle broke out between the police and Congress workers during the protest, creating a tense atmosphere for a while. The controversy stems from an alleged statement by BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma, who, while taking a dig at Chief Minister Sukhu's visit to Chamba, remarked that "the Chief Minister's hair should be kept in a museum and a DNA study conducted on it." Congress reacted sharply, terming the comment a personal insult to the Chief Minister. Local Congress leaders stated that while political differences are one thing, personal and undignified remarks go against democratic values.
During the protest, Congress workers tried to burn the MLA's effigy, but the police intervened and stopped them.
