हिमाचल प्रदेश के आठ और पारंपरिक उत्पादों को भौगोलिक संकेतक (जीआई) टैग मिलने से प्रदेश की सांस्कृतिक विरासत और स्थानीय उत्पादों को नई पहचान मिली है। इन नए उत्पादों में स्पीति का सी-बकथॉर्न (छरमा), सलूणी सफेद मक्का, चंबा मेटल आर्ट, सिरमौरी लोइया, किन्नौरी टोपी, मंडी की सेपूबड़ी, किन्नौरी सेब और किन्नौरी आभूषण शामिल हैं। इसके साथ ही प्रदेश के जीआई टैग प्राप्त उत्पादों की संख्या बढ़कर 17 हो गई है। मुख्यमंत्री ठाकुर सुखविन्द्र सिंह सुक्खू ने इस उपलब्धि पर प्रदेशवासियों को बधाई देते हुए कहा कि यह राज्य सरकार के पिछले साढ़े तीन वर्षों के निरंतर प्रयासों का परिणाम है। उन्होंने कहा कि जीआई टैग मिलने से इन उत्पादों की मौलिकता सुरक्षित रहेगी, बाजार में इनकी मांग और मूल्य बढ़ेगा तथा ग्रामीण अर्थव्यवस्था को मजबूती मिलेगी। साथ ही किसानों, बुनकरों, कारीगरों और जनजातीय समुदायों के लिए रोजगार और आय के नए अवसर भी सृजित होंगे।मुख्यमंत्री सुखविंदर सिंह सुखू ने बताया कि राज्य सरकार चार अन्य पारंपरिक उत्पादों पांगी का भोट जौ, चंबा चुख, भरमौर का प्लेक्ट्रेंथस शहद और सिरमौर का अदरक को भी जीआई टैग दिलाने के लिए प्रयासरत है। पर्यावरण, विज्ञान, प्रौद्योगिकी एवं जलवायु परिवर्तन विभाग के सचिव सुशील कुमार सिंगला ने कहा कि जीआई पंजीकरण उत्पादों को नकली और अनाधिकृत उपयोग से सुरक्षा प्रदान करता है। इससे उनकी ब्रांड पहचान मजबूत होगी और निर्यात की संभावनाएं भी बढ़ेंगी। उल्लेखनीय है कि इससे पहले कुल्लू शॉल, कांगड़ा चाय, चंबा रूमाल, किन्नौरी शॉल, कांगड़ा पेंटिंग, हिमाचली काला जीरा, हिमाचली चुल्ली तेल, चंबा चप्पल तथा लाहौली बुने हुए मोजे एवं दस्तानों सहित नौ उत्पादों को जीआई टैग मिल चुका है।

Eight more traditional products from Himachal Pradesh have received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, bringing new recognition to the state's cultural heritage and local produce. These new products include Spiti's Sea-buckthorn (Chharma), Salooni White Maize, Chamba Metal Art, Sirmauri Loiya, Kinnauri Cap, Mandi's Sepu Badi, Kinnauri Apples, and Kinnauri Jewellery. With this addition, the total number of GI-tagged products from the state has risen to 17. Congratulating the people of the state on this achievement, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that this is the result of the state government's continuous efforts over the past three and a half years. He noted that the GI tag would safeguard the authenticity of these products, boost their market demand and value, and strengthen the rural economy. It will also create new employment and income opportunities for farmers, weavers, artisans, and tribal communities. Chief Minister Sukhu added that the state government is also striving to secure GI tags for four other traditional products: Pangi's Bhot Barley, Chamba Chukh, Bharmour's Plectranthus Honey, and Sirmaur's Ginger. Sushil Kumar Singla, Secretary of the Department of Environment, Science, Technology, and Climate Change, stated that GI registration protects products against counterfeiting and unauthorized use. This will strengthen their brand identity and enhance export prospects. Notably, nine products had previously received the GI tag, including Kullu Shawl, Kangra Tea, Chamba Rumal, Kinnauri Shawl, Kangra Paintings, Himachali Kala Jeera (Black Cumin), Himachali Chulli Oil, Chamba Chappal, and Lahauli knitted socks and gloves.
