Jobs of 400 Outsource Employees in Himachal at Risk
'Sabse Tez Khabar' /Himachal Pradesh
The jobs of approximately 400 data entry operators deployed on an outsourced basis in Himachal Pradesh's Jal Shakti Department are in jeopardy. Their contracts are set to expire on September 30, 2026. The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) has sent a letter to the Engineer-in-Chief of the Jal Shakti Department informing them of the impending contract expiration. According to the NIELIT letter, the contracts of all outsourced employees deployed in the department's headquarters and field offices will terminate after September 30. Consequently, the employees will be unable to continue their services at their respective offices without a valid contract extension. The agency has clarified that it will not be liable for the salary or other dues of any employee who continues to work after the contract expires. These employees have been serving the Jal Shakti Department under the outsourcing arrangement for several years. The notification regarding the contract's end has created uncertainty regarding their employment. A decision on the way forward—specifically regarding the continuation of their services—remains to be made between the government and the concerned agency. Meanwhile, the government has previously spoken about formulating a permanent policy for outsourced employees. The staff is now keenly watching to see what decision the government takes before the September 30 deadline. If the contracts are not extended in time, the services of the approximately 400 data entry operators working across the state could be disrupted.
