A Wave of Devotion at the Court of Chalda Mahasu Maharaj in Sirmaur District: 500 'Bhanjiyas' Arrive in Matching Attire
Sabse Tez Khabar / Shillai (Neelam Thakur)
A unique confluence of folk faith and tradition was witnessed in the Giripar region. Around 500 women—married and unmarried—hailing from Pashmi village arrived at the court of Chalda Mahasu Maharaj, all dressed in identical traditional attire. The women took out a grand procession from Shillai market to the Pashmi temple, chanting hymns and raising slogans in praise of Mahasu Maharaj. Their matching traditional outfits were a major attraction during the procession. Carrying offerings for worship and chanting praises to Mahasu Maharaj, the devotees reached the Pashmi temple. Upon arrival, they performed rituals and prayed for the well-being of their families, the prosperity of the region, and social harmony. On this occasion, the women of Pashmi village offered two silver *Dorias* (ceremonial ornaments) and a goat to Chalda Mahasu Maharaj. Following the religious ceremony, a grand community feast (*Bhandara*) was organized within the temple premises, where a large number of devotees partook in the *Prasad*. A devotional gathering (*Jagran*) continued late into the night, featuring praises of Mahasu Maharaj and performances of folk songs and traditional arts that showcased the rich culture of the Giripar region. The participating women remarked that such collective religious events serve to strengthen not only the region's faith but also its folk traditions, culture, and social unity. The collective participation of these 500 women sent a powerful message about connecting the new generation with their cultural heritage. The temple complex remained abuzz with devotees late into the night, and the entire area echoed with chants in praise of Mahasu Maharaj.
