Under the 'Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project'—an initiative run in collaboration with the Government of Himachal Pradesh and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)—students in five selected schools across Sirmaur district are being sensitized to natural farming and agricultural diversification. The project, overseen by the BPMU office in Nahan, is being implemented by the 'Centre for Technology and Entrepreneurship,' Jagdishpur-Amethi (Uttar Pradesh). As part of this initiative, a one-day awareness program was held today at the PM SHRI Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Paonta Sahib. The event was presided over by the school principal, Maya Ram Verma, and saw enthusiastic participation from 50 female students. During the program, students received practical insights into topics such as natural farming, mushroom cultivation, climate-resilient agriculture, career and self-employment opportunities in the agricultural sector, as well as the establishment of vermicompost units and 'nutrition gardens' (poshan vatikas). Nodal Officer Akshay Thakur and Project Coordinator (Sirmaur District) Ankush Kanwar were also present. The organizers stated that five students who demonstrate exceptional performance during this awareness camp will be selected for the next phase, where they will have the opportunity to participate in specialized activities and training programs. As part of this seven-day awareness campaign, students are being educated on the importance of natural farming and the adverse effects of chemical fertilizers. School Principal Maya Ram Verma and the JICA project team encouraged the participating students, urging them to spread the message of natural farming and environmental conservation within their communities.
