Centre reduced Himachal’s borrowing limit by Rs 1,600 crore after the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS): Congress spokesperson. Following his appointment as a state-level spokesperson for the Congress party, Mukesh Sharma held his first press conference in Solan. During the event, he addressed questions raised by BJP leaders regarding the 10 guarantees promised by the Congress government. He remarked that before criticizing the current administration, the BJP should account for the promises they made during their own tenure. Mukesh Sharma stated that in its very first cabinet meeting, the Congress government decided to extend the benefits of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to 1.36 lakh government employees. He alleged that following the implementation of the OPS, the central government reduced Himachal Pradesh’s borrowing limit by Rs 1,600 crore, which has adversely impacted the state's financial situation.
Mukesh Sharma also targeted the central government over the discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG). He noted that during the tenure of the previous BJP government, the state received over Rs 55,000 crore in RDG, whereas the amount has consistently declined under the current administration. He claimed that the former BJP government left the state burdened with a debt of approximately Rs 76,000 crore and additional liabilities amounting to Rs 11,000 crore. Sharma stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state government is making concerted efforts to improve the economic situation. He cited examples such as cost savings in the Kishau project, a legal victory in the Oberoi Hotel case, and the establishment of Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for natural farming produce as evidence of the government's proactive measures. He expressed confidence that the Congress government will continue to work in the public interest and return to power with an absolute majority in 2027, under the banner of 'Systemic Change Part-2' (Vyavastha Parivartan Part-2).
