Road Closure Forces Villagers to Carry 80-Year-Old Woman's Body on Shoulders for 6 Kilometers
Sabse Tez Khabar / Nahan
In the Dhartidhar area of Nahan subdivision, Sirmaur district, villagers had to carry the body of an 80-year-old woman on their shoulders for approximately six kilometers to reach the village because the road was closed. Vehicular movement on the route has been halted since the road was damaged during the monsoon, causing significant hardship for the villagers in transporting the body to the village for the last rites. According to reports, after the woman passed away, her family and fellow villagers wanted to take the body to her home in the village, but no vehicle could reach the location due to the road closure. Consequently, the villagers carried the body on their shoulders and covered the distance of about six kilometers on foot; the family members also faced considerable difficulty during this journey. The villagers state that the road, damaged during the monsoon, has remained closed for a long time. Due to the failure to restore the road, local residents are facing problems with both daily activities and emergency situations. Difficulties are arising in transporting the sick and elderly to the hospital and in the movement of essential supplies. The villagers have demanded that the administration and the concerned department restore the road immediately. They believe that restoring road connectivity will bring relief to the local population and prevent such situations in the future. The residents have urged the administration to complete the repair work on the damaged route on a priority basis.
